MEXICO READY FOR STAR SIXES

Body:

Mexico is ready for the Star Sixes tournament in July and the squad has been named ahead of the inaugural event in London.

Eccentric Mexican goalkeeper Jorge Campos, who is best known for his colourful jersey and goalscoring abilities, says he would find his old shirts and be ready to impress at the tournament.

Twelve countries are set to take part in the event at The O2 in London between July 13 and 16. Star players have confirmed their participation for the games. Brazilian legend Roberto Carlos is expected, retired Three Lions players Rio Ferdinand and Steven Gerrard and even Michael Ballack of Germany are set to appear.

“My message to the Mexican people in London is get ready with tequila and mariachi and enjoy Star Sixies. I’m going to try to find my ‘special’ shirts in the wardrobe, so hopefully I can wear them at Star Sixies,” Campos said.

The six-a-side format play promises to bring more excitement as three groups battle. Group Aconsists of England, Spain, Mexico and Scotland. Group B has Brazil, Italy, Nigeria and China while Group C holds Germany, France, Portugal and Denmark.

Campos said he was very excited about the tournament where he would meet “extraordinary players again.” He promised to feature as a goalkeeper and as an outfield player, adding that he preferred scoring goals than conceding.

Premier League legend Jay Jay Okocha will captain the Nigerian team. The Nigerian will reunite with his former Bolton Wanderers star Jared Borgetti. The 43-year old praised Okocha, adding that he would be “very happy to see him again.”

Hernandez, Borgetti, and Campos will join Alberto Rodriguez, Hector Altamirano, Garcia Aspe, Joaquin Reyes, Mario Mendes, Miguel Zepeda and Braulio Luna to form the Mexican squad for the tournament.
