Herrera Confirms Plans To Use Friendlies

Body:

Mexican manager Miguel Herrera has confirmed that he plans to use the final pretournament friendly match against Ecuador as a preparation to find his best starting line-up. After being on the edge of being knocked out of the World Cup qualifying stage, Mexico come into the tournament as one of the inform teams in the last few months. They are undefeated in the last five friendly matches, while they go into the final two against Bosnia and Portugal in a good run of form. The most recent victory came in the form of a 2-0 win over Ecuador.

Players like Montes and Fabian were on the scoresheet in this victory. After the match, Herrera stated that he now has a good idea of the players at his disposal. This would help him arrive at a better conclusion for the starting line-up. Mexico need to be at their best from the opening match of the World Cup 2014. They will be up against Africans Cameroon in this match. Since they will be playing against favourites Brazil in the next match, Mexico will be aware that they need to take three points from the opening match in order to not miss out on the knockout stages.
They may have qualified for the tournament only through the play-offs, but Herrera believes they can reach the knockout stages.

"There are still distractions. We must continue this co-ordination, the movements that we want are things that we will be correcting. We hope that when we get to Dallas to train, [Herrera] arrives at the stadium having recovered well, but there is no hurry if the doctor says that he is not 100 per cent. We hope that on Saturday we have a full team, then we can begin to see others and begin to make decisions about who are going to be the core of the team," he said.
