Mexico drawn in group with Germany, Fiji, and South Korea

Defending Olympic champions Mexico has been drawn in the same group as Germany, Fiji, and South Korea.

The draw was held on Thursday in the mythic Maracana Stadium in Brazil.
Mexico is the defending Olympics champions after having beaten Brazil 2-1 in the 2012 final in London. They qualified for this year Olympics by winning the CONCACAF Men's Olympic Qualifying Championship. They will be accompanied by Honduras, who is the other finalist for the CONCACAF.

Mexico may find it difficult to retain their title with teams such as Brazil and Argentina likely to field strong teams in this competition. The Olympics football tournament is reserved for under-23 players but allows 3 overage players per team.

Brazil, who will be playing at home, will want to win the Olympics football competition, especially after a disastrous World Cup. For all their victories in the World Cup and Copa America, Brazil has never won the gold medal at the Olympics. In recent years, Brazil has been fielding strong teams to try and win the competition, but the best they could manage was a silver or bronze medal. This year the pressure is on Dunga to win the medal as a meager consolation for their poor performance at their World Cup.

Dunga has already stated that he will be fighting to get Neymar in the Brazil team. With the Brazilian team also due to play the Copa America this year, Barcelona has already stated that they will only allow Neymar to participate in one tournament. He will need to have enough rest so as to be able to prepare for next season.

The tournament kicks off on the 4th August with Iraq taking on Danemark. Mexico will play later on the same day against Germany.
