New PSV Eindhoven manager Mark van Bommel has said that he has not given up on keeping Hirving Lozano at the club beyond the summer. The Mexico international was one among the standout performer for his national team during the World Cup and this has spread speculation of him pursuing a big-money move elsewhere.
Despite this, Van Bommel remains optimistic of keeping Lozano and insists that any potential sale must be accompanied by an ideal replacement, he said: “I do not take into account a departure from Lozano. We do not want to lose him. If we can say no to a bid of forty or fifty million euros? Yes, that’s possible. We want the Champions League and we will do everything we can. In addition, we are not a club of ‘we only sell and buy a different one.’ No. There must always be a good replacement available. We did not want to keep Luuk de Jong for nothing and we succeeded.”

Germany international Toni Kroos has stressed that the reigning champions have no room for error following the 1-0 defeat to Mexico in their opening game of the World Cup. Joachim Loew’s side were widely tipped to start their World Cup defence with a win but they were caught short at the back by a hard-working Mexico side.
As such, the pressure has begun mounting on Germany and Kroos believes the nation must secure six points from their remaining games to have any chance of topping the group, he said: “We're under real pressure now. We have to get six points from the next games. We didn't play well enough. Overall, we had our chances, but we weren't able to score. We lost the ball up front far too easily and Mexico had always two or three people up front, who we failed to block efficiently.”

Porto midfielder Hector Herrera has urged Mexico to shed their small-side mentality ahead of this summer’s World Cup finals in Russia. El Tri have been ousted in the round of 16 in each of their previous six editions of the global tournament but Herrera has urged the nation to push for a quarter-final spot this time around.
Speaking to Spanish outlet Marca, he said: “We have to stop these fears, stop believing we’re a small team, stop going on about ‘the fifth game’, believing that we won't reach the fifth match. We have to think about becoming champions, in wanting to lift the World Cup. I think if we reach the next round, it is proof that we are up for big things and can cause that surprise and impose the feeling that we are a great side at the World Cup.”

West Ham United manager David Moyes has come in the defence of Javier Hernandez following his struggles to claim a regular spot in the starting lineup. The Mexico international began the season as the first-choice striker under Slaven Bilic, and his brace against Southampton made him a fan favourite in the early phase of the campaign.
However, he has since netted on only two occasions, and the arrival of Moyes at the London Stadium have coincided with his demotion from the first XI. Hernandez has yet to make a league start under the tutelage of the former Everton manager, but the Scot nevertheless backs the Mexican to regain his form, just like Marko Arnautovic in recent weeks.
