Porto midfielder Hector Herrera has urged Mexico to shed their small-side mentality ahead of this summer’s World Cup finals in Russia. El Tri have been ousted in the round of 16 in each of their previous six editions of the global tournament but Herrera has urged the nation to push for a quarter-final spot this time around.
Speaking to Spanish outlet Marca, he said: “We have to stop these fears, stop believing we’re a small team, stop going on about ‘the fifth game’, believing that we won't reach the fifth match. We have to think about becoming champions, in wanting to lift the World Cup. I think if we reach the next round, it is proof that we are up for big things and can cause that surprise and impose the feeling that we are a great side at the World Cup.”

Mexico international Javier Hernandez does not want to hide his ambition for the upcoming World Cup. The West Ham United forward believes El Tri have the potential to create upsets at the global tournament, and thinks the nation should head to Russia with the aim of securing a maiden World Cup crown.
El Tri have failed to progress beyond the round of 16 stage in any of the previous six World Cups, and the focus is once more on the nation as they embark to break this run in Russia. Speaking to Univision, Hernandez was asked about Mexico’s aspirations at the World Cup where he highlighted that the side have enough quality to qualify for the quarter-final stage and further.

West Ham United manager David Moyes has come in the defence of Javier Hernandez following his struggles to claim a regular spot in the starting lineup. The Mexico international began the season as the first-choice striker under Slaven Bilic, and his brace against Southampton made him a fan favourite in the early phase of the campaign.
However, he has since netted on only two occasions, and the arrival of Moyes at the London Stadium have coincided with his demotion from the first XI. Hernandez has yet to make a league start under the tutelage of the former Everton manager, but the Scot nevertheless backs the Mexican to regain his form, just like Marko Arnautovic in recent weeks.

Mexico head coach Juan Carlos Osorio has admitted that his side's 1-1 draw against Costa Rica was probably the fair result, although he is gutted by his side's inability to hold onto the lead in the World Cup qualifier at the Estadio Nacional.

The North American outfit took the lead in the 42nd minute when Cristian Gamboa unintentionally put the ball into his own net after an amazing reflex save from Keylor Navas. Mexico looked on course to clinch their six victory of their qualifying campaign, but Marcos Urena denied them the opportunity with an equaliser for Los Ticos eight minutes from time. Costa Rica nearly clinched the winner in the dying seconds of the game when Johan Venegas hit the post. Speaking in his post match press conference, Osorio said: "We're left with a bad taste. We thought we had the game controlled."

Jamaica trounced the Mexican side by a sole goal to reach the Gold Cup final on Sunday.

Kemar Lawrence’s effort was enough to send El Tri out of the tournament as his late goal was enough. The semifinal loss adds more pressure on the Mexican team ahead of the 2018 World Cup.
The team lost scandalously to Chile 7-0 at the Copa America Centenario last year and they lost 4-1 to Germany at the Confederations Cup few weeks back. However the team remains sure to reach the finals of the world event next year.
