Mexico began 2017 in positive fashion after a 1-0 win over Iceland.
This victory helped banish memories of the goalless draw with Panama in the final World Cup qualification game. The win over Iceland came as a result of a solitary goal by Alan Pulido in the 21st minute. Mexico coach Juan Carlos Osorio has been pressing a lot of importance on the defending of the national team. Recent results have been excellent with the team managing three clean sheets in the last five matches. On the disappointing note, Mexico have not been able to score more than six goals in these 5 games.

Former Mexico national team coach Miguel Herrera believes that the national team will not be able to do significantly better under the regime of his replacement Juan Carlos Osorio.
Appointed as the head coach of the Mexican national team in October 2015,Osorio has overseen an inconsistent period when it comes to results. Mexico have failed to make it beyond the last 16 stage of any World Cup tournament in the past. Their only appearance beyond this stage of the competition came before 1994. Under the leadership ofHerrera, Mexico experienced a lot of problems in the dressing room and it was a reason behind their early departure from the World Cup 2014.
