JIMENEZ PLAYS FIRST LEAGUE GAME FOR WOLVES SINCE SURGERY

Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Raul Jimenez has returned to Premier League action with his club after undergoing head surgery following a horrific injury that saw him fracture his skull before the end of last season. The Mexico international striker suffered the career-threatening injury in one of the matches he played for the club last season and many people thought it was going to be the end of his career for him. However, after being attended to by some professional doctors, he underwent a successful surgery and was passed fit to return to the football pitch but not without making use of headgear for his safety.

He played on one of the friendly matches that Wolves were involved in during pre-season and that was the first time he took to a football pitch since the injury. However, he marked his return to the Premier League on Sunday afternoon when they welcomed Tottenham Hotspur, now managed by their former manager Nuno Espirito Santo, to the Molineux Stadium.

The result of the match was not what Jimenez and his colleagues would have expected or wanted because Dele Alli’s first-half strike from the penalty spot was enough to guarantee the visiting team all three points as the match ended 1-0 in favor of Tottenham. However, even in defeat, there was still a tangible reason for the Wolves faithful to be in a jubilant mood as one of their players returned to action for them.

Jimenez looked sharp in the match, especially in the opening 45 minutes of the game but he was neither able to help his side seal a win nor help them avoid defeat against a resilient Tottenham side. Wolves had their chances but their lack of being clinical cost them all three points.

CAN JIMENEZ STILL SEAL HIS DREAM MOVE FROM WOLVES?

Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Raul Jimenez is currently torn between working to continue playing in his career under very careful conditions and looking to seal his dream move away from the club. The Mexico international striker suffered a career-threatening injury last season and was ruled out for the rest of the campaign after it was confirmed that he would be needing to undergo surgery. Before the injury, he was in such a fine form for Wolves and was also attracting interest from a couple of clubs in the Premier League, with Manchester United and Arsenal the two major suitors.

United were linked to the striker after his fine form as the Red Devils were looking for a competition for Anthony Martial. However, as expected, they pulled out of the race to sign the Mexican forward and after already signing Uruguay international striker Edinson Cavani on a free transfer last January after the forward left Paris Saint-Germain, there appears to be no need to chase Jimenez anymore.

Arsenal are also said to no longer be interested in signing the Wolves star and are reportedly working to get other targets, meaning that Jimenez would have to once again prove that he deserves to move to a big club. It was confirmed after his surgery that he will have to continue wearing head protection for the rest of his career and it remains to be seen if it will affect his footballing ability but if it does, then he may have to focus on regaining his status as Wolves’ main man for as long as he can.

The striker already has Premier League experience but he now faces a huge task of bringing his career back on track and focusing on regaining the fine form that he was in before his unfortunate injury.

For this reason alone, fans have been divided with regard to the opinion. However, that has not prevented teams from going out all guns blazing in order to try and win the tournament. Juan Carlos Osorio took charge of the national team only eight months ago, butJimenez says that he has seen a lot of progress already. One of the good attributes of the manager according toJimenez is his attacking intent. Mexico are no longer trying to sit back when they have an advantage. Instead, they now try to press forward and score even more goals.Jimenez also claims that the manager comes up with a different training regimes depending on the opposition. He says that Mexico’s national team trained differently while preparing for games against Uruguay and Jamaica.

“He always tries to find a way to try to do damage to the opponent. He is very specific in his work, we have trained in a very different way for the game against Uruguay than Jamaica. He gives us the weak spots that [the opposition] may have and things that we also have to counter [in the opposition]. For everyone, in every position, there is an intense fight at the training sessions. These are Osorio’s decisions, and whoever is better and fulfils his needs will take a spot in the starting line-up,” said Mexican forward Jimenez.
